As part of the “Information Professional in the Makerspace” course taught by Dr. Maggie Melo, at the School of Information Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel, I was tasked with creating a book infused with makersspace technology that told a story about a maker. For my piece, entitled “i think in prints,” I take the viewer into the journey of how printmaker Cara Smelter, creates one of her pieces. The viewer becomes a “printmaker” themselves and goes through the motion of “pulling'' one of Smelter’s (laser cut) prints with the use of a 3D printed hand and brayer.  I wanted the viewer, now in the role of “printmaker,” to get a mini experience of being a maker through his piece.   The title of the piece, “i think in prints,” is a quote from Smelter that was said during our interview.
